Privacy policy

We run a reading site. There are no accounts, no comments and no email list, so we collect very little. Here is all of it.

What we collect

You can read every page without giving us your name, email address or any other personal details, and we don't ask for them. We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages and product links people use: pages viewed, approximate location (city or region), device and browser type, how you arrived, and clicks on links to Amazon (the product ID, the link text and the page the click came from). Google Analytics sets first-party cookies to tell visits apart. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We use these reports in aggregate to decide what to write and fix; we don't try to identify individual readers.
  • Search box. What you type in the site search is sent to our server to look up matching articles. We don't keep a record of searches tied to you.
  • Server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider receives standard request information (IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time) and may keep it for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.

Amazon and other outside sites

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Links to Amazon carry our affiliate tag so Amazon can credit a purchase to us. When you follow one, you are on Amazon's site, and Amazon may set cookies and collect information under its own privacy notice. Amazon reports purchases to us in aggregate; it doesn't tell us who you are or what you bought.

Product images load directly from Amazon's image servers and, for a few products, from the manufacturer's website, so your browser contacts those servers when a page shows those images. Links to Reddit, forums, manufacturers and government sites take you to sites with their own privacy practices.

Your choices

  • You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.
  • Google offers a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).
  • Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask what personal information a business holds about you and to have it deleted. Because we don't collect names, emails or accounts, we usually hold nothing we can tie to you, but you can write to us and we'll answer.

Children

This site is written for adults buying heating and cooling equipment and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes and contact

If what we collect changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Questions about this policy: privacy@theheatandairreview.com.
