Our takeThe remote-control version of Frigidaire's 5,000 BTU unit: same CEER 11.0 and window fit as the FFRA051WAE, plus a timer, sleep and dry modes, auto restart and nearly twice the listed airflow. Our quiet pick for a small bedroom: the closed sash sits between you and the compressor, and no 6,000 BTU U is on the recall list. The catch is fit, since it needs a 22-36 in single- or double-hung opening at least 13.75 in tall.

Watch out forNot reviewed on its own; covered in our FFRA051WAE review.CPSC recall #25320 (June 2025) covers the 8,000-12,000 BTU V1QWT, AV1QWT, W1QWT and U1QWT Midea U models over mold from pooled water. Read the suffix on the listing and again on the box label. Owners of earlier U models report a high-pitched inverter whine some people hear and others don't; buy where returns are easy and run it overnight on low fan in week one. The built-in sensor misreads room temperature; turn on Comfort Sense (the remote's sensor) on day one.
