Spec LG 8,500 BTU Dual Inverter Window AC (LW8024IVSM) Midea U 8,000 BTU U-Shaped Window AC (MAW08V1UWT) Photo Our score SCORE 7.2 / 10 SCORE 7.5 / 10 Our take LG's current 8,000-class inverter, ENERGY STAR at CEER 15 with in-home warranty service. It's a bigger 85 lb slide-in/out chassis, and LG doesn't publish its window range, so measure before you buy. The window unit we'd put in a bedroom first: inverter, compressor outside the glass, CEER 15 and a suffix that isn't recalled. Skip it if your window is short or you need heat; no U has a heat mode. Type Window U-shaped window Cooling (DOE / SACC) 8,500 BTU 8,000 BTU CEER 15 15 Inverter Yes Yes Heat mode None None Noise, lowest setting (maker figure) 44 dBA n/a Window width, min n/a 22 in Window width, max n/a 36 in Min sash opening n/a 13.75 in Weight 85 lb n/a Warranty 1 yr 1 yr ENERGY STAR Yes Yes Watch out for LG's 1-year warranty applies only when bought from an LG authorized dealer; ask a third-party seller. Owner reports of 5-8°F wrong room readings concern the 2017-2022 LG models; the 2024 units have little owner history yet. CPSC recall #25320 (June 2025) covers the 8,000-12,000 BTU V1QWT, AV1QWT, W1QWT and U1QWT Midea U models over mold from pooled water. Read the suffix on the listing and again on the box label. Owners of earlier U models report a high-pitched inverter whine some people hear and others don't; buy where returns are easy and run it overnight on low fan in week one. When we checked in October 2026 this listing had no featured offer, only a third-party seller. Comfort Sense (remote sensor) fixes the built-in sensor's wrong room reading.
