Our scoreSCORE5.7 / 10SCORE7.1 / 10
Our takeA compact ducted unit for a small or very tight house: 52.45 pints/day at 73°F per Santa Fe, MERV-13 and an outdoor-air port in a 12 in square cabinet. For most whole-house jobs the AprilAire E080 or E100 removes more water for similar money.A ductable 70-pint unit with 200 CFM for a sealed crawl space or basement that stays above the mid-50s. It stops dehumidifying below 50°F inlet air, and AprilAire publishes only an 80°F rating to judge it by.

Watch out forIts 52.45-pint figure is Santa Fe's own at the 73°F whole-home test; the Ultra70 isn't on ENERGY STAR's list, and the figure isn't comparable with a portable's 65°F rating. Santa Fe markets 6 years; the manual's terms are 5 years on the product and 6 on components, with labor, shipping and removal excluded. Owners report evaporator refrigerant leaks and units failing within the first year; most reports predate the current R454B part 4044100. Previously sold as the Ultra-Aire 70H (earlier part 4033730); the Compact70 is a different crawl space unit. Running without the recommended filter voids the warranty.AprilAire publishes only the legacy 80°F rating; there's no 65°F or 73°F figure and the E070 isn't on ENERGY STAR's list, so don't line its 70 up against current-test ratings. The warranty is void if defects result from not installing per AprilAire's instructions, and AprilAire recommends a professional install; labor is never covered. E070 Pro is an Amazon listing name, not an AprilAire model. Used units from private sellers or auction sites aren't covered.
