| Our score | SCORE6.1 / 10 | SCORE7.0 / 10 |
| Our take | Silent, steady oil-filled baseboard heat for a bedroom of roughly 125 sq ft: 1,250 W on 240 V. It costs several times a plain baseboard and uses exactly the same electricity per BTU. | Our pick for one to three people in a fishing hut, tent or truck cap, or one room in an outage: 4,000 or 9,000 BTU/hr on one 1 lb cylinder with half the Big Buddy's vent opening. No thermostat or fan, and the low-oxygen shutoff doesn't detect CO. |
| Type | 240V hydronic baseboard | Portable propane |

| Indoor use per manual | Yes; horizontal, level, not below a receptacle | Recreational enclosures + emergency, 1 lb only |
| Thermostat | No | No |
| Warranty | 7 yrbest | 3 yr |
| Watch out for | Thermostat sold separately. A 120 V SoftHeat on a 240 V circuit fails; a 240 V model on 120 V makes a quarter of its heat. The Amazon listing shows no model number; its 240/208V and 5.21/4.5 A ratings match the EBHN1250W. | Not sold to Massachusetts or Canada from Mr. Heater's page; not for a dwelling home in California. The low-oxygen shutoff does not detect carbon monoxide; run a battery CO alarm listed to UL 2034 wherever the heater runs. Remote tanks stay outdoors on a Mr. Heater hose (F273699 filter yearly unless it's the F273704); for emergency home heat the manual allows 1 lb cylinders only. Never run it while sleeping; vent 9 sq in at the ceiling and at floor level. |
