Heat stops below 41°F, and humid-climate owners end up draining cooling condensate by hand.The portable we'd buy: hose-in-hose inverter, 12,000 BTU SACC, a published CEER of 14.2 and a heat pump. The catch is the mail-in warranty and an authorized-dealer requirement.

Watch out for1-year warranty; the owner pays diagnostics, removal, transport and reinstallation for service. A retailer labels the heat 'Electric Heat'; the manual says heat pump. Check for the H in the model number; the MAP14S1TBL looks the same and doesn't heat. When we checked, the listing had no featured offer and one third-party seller.Warranty is 1 year plus 3 years on the compressor, but service is mail-in, only within the 48 contiguous states, needs an authorized Whynter dealer, and you pay return freight after month two. Portable ACs are excluded from ENERGY STAR's room AC program. ARC-1230WN and ARC-1230WN2 are similar inverter models with no heat.
